Black noses

I put a thread up about this a while back and there was some realy intresting genetic info on it.As Gracies just had her foal,I have noticed that she is the absolute spitting image of her mum,and she looks like she will have a black nose too.

Does anyone know of certain breeds that carry this colouring?

I think it's common in miniatures - don't know if your's are minis. Also, I was told in the US that it's considered lucky!

Re: Black noses
My donkey Betsy has a black nose. She is due to have a foal any time now, it will be interesting to see what colour nose the baby has.

I don't know anything about the genetics / inheritance side of this, but here (inthe UK) they are often called 'Sweep's donkeys' and considered very lucky.

Re: Black noses

Not in any  particualar breed-Its the just absense of pangare markings(mealey nose with/without eye rings) Usually in genetic terms called No Light Points NLP

"The Pangare' locus controls whether or not donkeys have dark or light points. The dominent wild-type form of this gene (Pa+) creates light points, and a donkey that is homozygous recessive (Pamp) at this locus will have dark points."

It interesting that we seem to  recognise those light points =donkey.

I have seen some NLP that one had to  look twice at to check it was a donkey not a mule.
